How can the cleaning industry take the lead in infection control? >>

Under the leadership of the Netherlands’ Facility Management Association for Healthcare (FMG), ISSA will invite industry experts from the U.S., Germany, U.K and the Netherlands to answer the question on how the cleaning industry can take the lead in combating infections like MRSA in our hospitals and schools.

Ms Thea Daha
An editor for Hygiene and Infection Prevention magazine, Ms Thea Daha has worked as a hospital hygienist at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), one of The Netherlands leading academic teaching hospitals for more than two decades. She also has worked for the Stichting Werkgroep Infectiepreventie (Foundation for Infection Prevention) since 1986.

Daha also is the chair person of the Dutch Association for Hygienists in the intramural health care sector. A member of the Dutch organisation ‘Norms, Sterilize and Sterility’, she also is active in several advisory boards and a member of the platform ‘Cleaning and Disinfection’.

Dr Steven M. Spivak
Dr Steven M. Spivak is the Science Advisory Council Chairman for the U.S.-based Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI). He has more than 30 years of experience as a professor and consultant regarding standards for the cleaning, professional care and maintenance industries and has served as an advisor for several trade associations and the U.S. government.

He also has served four terms as a board director for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as well as a consumer policy chairman for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). He has written several scientific papers and reports related to the technical side of the cleaning industry and currently is focusing on the issues of green cleaning and the connection between science and cleaning. Spivak holds a BS and MS in Textile Engineering and a Ph.D. in Fibre and Polymer Science from the University of Manchester, England.

Doing business in Central & Eastern Europe and CIS >>
This seminar will address how best to develop business in Central & Eastern Europe and the emerging markets of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States with special emphasis on the Ukraine. During this seminar, the ISSA will promote its recently published Guide for Eastern Europe and the next edition of ISSA/INTERCLEAN Central and Eastern Europe, scheduled for May 2009 in Warsaw, Poland.

Discussion manufacturer - distributer/user: Listening to the client’s need for sustainability >>
A forum discussion between suppliers and users about the influence of SUSTAINABILITY in the cleaning industry. The seminar’s main focus will be on how manufacturers can help cleaning companies by producing the right tools to convince the professional “consumer” that they are meeting their needs for sustainability and environmentally friendly cleaning.

John Delany

John Delany is the founder and president of Giraffe Consulting and a former professor at the University of Minnesota. He has more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of market research, strategy development, strategic planning, strategy execution, organizational design, and marketing within the jansan distribution, manufacturing and service provider industries. Delany also has conducted a two-year strategic study of the cleaning industry for ISSA, which has offered a host of valuable trend information for ISSA members. He also brings a unique blend of insight from other industries he has worked with, including consumer product goods, the automotive aftermarket, custom engineering, property and casualty insurance, credit cards, banking, retailing, heavy construction equipment, and chemical manufacturing.

Prior to Giraffe, John was head of growth planning for Arthur Andersen and the subsequent spin-off BearingPoint, as well as an executive in marketing and strategy for Sears, The Bank of New York, Norwest Banks, and Fallon Advertising. John speaks and writes for business forums and professional associations and serves on several cleaning industry boards. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale and a B.A. from Brown.

Independent consultant, Jan Paul van Soest is an expert in energy, environmental issues and related economic policies as well as author of the book Nature=Economy! He resides in The Netherlands where he is the chairman of the ‘Energy Policy’ platform and a board member of the Triodos Bank Sustainability Investment Fund. Previously, he was the director of the Centre for Energy Conservation and Clean Technology through 2003 and a board member of the World Wildlife Fund Netherlands.

Steven Spivak, Chairman of the Cleaning Industry Research Institute in the U.S.A and his European counterparts will address the confusion and profusion of green cleaning. How the latest European registration of chemicals (REACH) and the Global Harmonization System for labeling impacts on green clean technology will be addressed by experts from the Brussels based law firm Steptoe & Johnson.
